Scene One Entertainment announces purchase of Spectrum 8 Theaters

Planned investments to include parking lot updates, additional in-theater enhancements while retaining original character of beloved and fiercely independent movie theater

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 30, 2026) — Scene One Entertainment has announced it has completed the purchase of Spectrum 8 Theaters, nearly two years after Scene One reopened the theater under a lease-to-purchase agreement.

The purchase will allow Scene One to make critical upgrades and investments into the Spectrum 8 Theaters property, including updates to the parking lots, in-theater enhancements including new seats and further restorations of the lobby and auditoriums.

“Two years ago, when I announced I was reopening the Spectrum, the ultimate goal was to bring this theater fully under our ownership and today, I could not be more excited to say that this dream has come true,” said Joe Masher, owner and CEO of Scene One Entertainment. “The Spectrum is our crown jewel. It is the theater I grew up going to, seeing films that truly captivated every corner of the imagination. In the past two years, we have brought that magic back to the Spectrum and we have so much more planned to come.”

The Spectrum first opened as the Delaware Theatre in 1941 by Warner Brothers and designed by Blatner & van der Bogert. Originally a single-screen theater with 699 seats, it was then acquired years later by two couples in May 1983 that entitled the theater, “The Spectrum.” The original auditorium was divided into two auditoriums (presently theaters 3 and 4), in which guests can still see the Art Deco artwork that adorn the ceilings.

The improvements to the Spectrum will be phased over the next few months and years, in which Scene One plans to vie for federal and state historic grants to assist in financing the projects as they are planned.

The purchase of the Spectrum comes on the heels of an exciting first quarter for Scene One. Earlier this year, the company announced it took over the operation of the historic New Canaan Playhouse in southwestern Connecticut which opened in mid-March. Additionally, Scene One announced the acquisition of the Market Arcade 8 in downtown Buffalo, in which the theater is planned to open in April.
